Should I Use WordPress?

WordPress is one of the most popular website building tools in the world! In this post we will explain some of its advantages and disadvantages for you to consider if it is still worth it.

What is WordPress?

WordPress can be defined as a CMS, a Content Management System. The natural strength of a CMS is not to create beautiful websites, but to provide a user friendly interface where a non technical user can add, edit or remove content without a need to access the code or back end.

They would normally be composed of 2 parts:

  • A folder or group of folders containing the files for the content administrator and front end
  • A database

Most users wont even have to deal with these elements as the web developer should install everything properly. The user will most likely only access the administrator and the visitors will only access the front end or “the published website”.

Advantages of WordPress in 2023

WordPress quickly evolved from being only a content manager, adding more tools to facilitate the integration of custom and 3rd party elements. These elements might be templates, themes, widgets, and plugins.

This evolution created the possibility for web designers and developers, to get wild with the visual and functional creativity. All while still maintaining an easy to use interface for the non technical users to manage their content.

WordPress Website Builders

The mentioned evolution brought with it a specific add-on that I believe was the big game changer for CMSs. I am talking about the website builders!

With a good WordPress Website Builder, a web designer can create an amazing website with drag and drop pre-coded elements. This generated both, increased creative possibilities and a reduction on the cost of building a website.

One of our favorite website builders is Elementor, that even has its own 3rd party add-ons created by developers to make it even more powerful. You can find a list of the best addons for Elementor in 2022 here.

Disadvantages of WordPress in 2023

One of the biggest disadvantages of using a CMS is that it is actually very easy to create a complete website by a non designer.

Many users will try to skip hiring a professional web designer because they feel they can do it by themselves! Many people think that having a website is a cost, instead of an investment, and try to pay the least possible (or nothing) for it.

What this creates most of the times is a sub par website that generates absolutely no value for the business. The professional websites are clearly more attractive and functional, ending up generating positive value for the business.

In this modern age, and with the importance of the digital marketing, you need to have good digital marketing that help you compete and transform visitors into customers.
